This appears to also be a good time to visit since there were tables available when we arrived.

We returned again on another Saturday shortly after they opened at 11 am. They also serve cocktails and they look very tasty. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. Maybe we will get some dessert to go next time. I saw pie at the table next to us that looked like it was to die for. We prefer to just go out for a drink and dessert instead, I don't like being stuffed. He said they are the best he's ever had and that man eats out most days and he's had his share of grits! We were offered dessert, but we don't tend to order dessert after a meal. I was on guard, no one was going to take that until I had my last bite! It was that good! Hubby enjoyed his steak sandwich and was in love with the grits. The waitress made the mistake of trying to take my plate before I was done eating my sweet potato muffin. The coleslaw was scrumptious and made with green peppers and the perfect amount of spice. The tarter sauce is so tasty and I'm very picky about tarter sauce. You can barely see them in the photo above because they are underneath the catfish. The sweet potato fries taste like they have a bit of cinnamon on them. The french fries and sweet potato fries were perfectly cooked though I would have liked more of them. The catfish was so flaky and the batter was so delicious yet not greasy.

It took about twenty minutes to get our entrees, but it was worth the wait. Hubby ordered the Black & Blue which is described as "seared blackened ribeye steak with blue cheese, horseradish mayo and crispy onions on a whole wheat Kaiser bun". I ordered Phil's Favorite which is described as "fried catfish platter served with red and white fries, creamy coleslaw and a sweet potato muffin". Their sanitation grade when we visited was 92.5%. They are closed on Mondays and on Sundays they open half an hour earlier for brunch and no dinner is served. Their hours are 11 am to 3 pm for lunch and 5 pm to 10 pm for dinner. Parallel parking is available on Trade Street. Who could blame them, their presentation is so appetizing! We arrived at 2 pm on the Saturday before Mother's Day, so I imagine most people were planning on going out on Sunday instead of Saturday, so the restaurant didn't have a line of people waiting outside to get a seat. Everyone that passed by was staring at our food. Fortunately, we finally found a day when there wasn't a long line and we were seated at the best table in the house, right at the front window. After hearing so many good things about this restaurant and that this is where celebrities go to eat lunch when they are in town, I just had to brave the long lines and give it a try. This is a review of a restaurant located in downtown Winston Salem, North Carolina called Sweet Potatoes.
